Reykjavík

I visited Iceland in April and August 2016, staying in Reykjavík at the start of both trips.

More than 60% of Iceland's population apparently lives in the Reykjavík capital region, but the city felt quiet and close to nature, with few tall buildings. The center was easy to explore on foot, and the shore was never far away. Well-kept paths made walking along the water a pleasure, with Mount Esja, also known as Esjan, rising across the bay—a view that, to me, captures Reykjavík.

I had planned to take a helicopter flight for aerial photographs on both visits, but bad weather canceled both flights. I explored the city in the time those cancellations left me, so I have only a few photographs to share.

I describe how these trips came about in the opening of the complete travelogue, so I have left that story out of this page.
