I have thought writing the usual profile: nationality, domicile, place of birth, schools, belongings, interests.... yet this is not that kind of web site. This site presents my experience of travel, of dayly life, of events , of photographing and or some reflections.

In Japan, I have visited and stayed at least one nigh in every prefecture and lived in 5 prefecture. Even so, there are still countless places I want to see, and many places I would like to return to in other seasons.

The "been travel map" app shows 47 countries and regions overseas. Some trips were for work, some with family, and some were for photography. Among the places Japanese travelers may not often visit are Yemen, Iraq, and Kiribati. These are old memories now, and only a few photographs kept in the archives. I may have chances to introduce some of them here someday.

Among the places I have visited, Iceland and Norway remain close to my heart. In Japan, I am fond of Hokkaido and places where Mt. Fuji can be seen. I would like return these places.

When I started this site, I spent some time thinking about its name. Then I remembered a story I had heard many years ago: before the Meiji era, my family had run a wholesaler called Fukudoya.

Looking into it a little, I found that Fukudoya had been a wholesale house in Kurume, Fukuoka, doing business from the Edo period into the Meiji era. It is said to have dealt in Kurume kasuri textiles and to have done business widely. That old shop no longer exists, but I decided to borrow its name for this website.

I also use the same name for my accounts on X and Instagram.

People rarely call me "Fukudoya-san," though. Especially overseas, the pronunciation is not always easy. So I also use the name Muto. It is short, simple, and works well in conversation.
